FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL IN THE HEART OF ST ANDREWS

Tasty activities in and around the beautiful town of St Andrews

“Savour St Andrews” is helping to showcase the famous golf, tourist and university town’s ever growing reputation for high quality food and drink.

Businesses from in and around the town have been involved in cookery demonstrations, an amazing tasting lunch, and creation of one-off special menus and dishes.

A number of the events took place in the run-up to St Andrew’s Day 2016, to follow-on from the St Andrews Food and Drink Festival (est. 2012).

In pride of place was the fifth annual St Andrew's Day dinner, which returned to the five red star Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa on November 30th with a stellar line-up of cooking talent, and support from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

The hotel's executive chef Martin Hollis was joined by Geoffrey Smeddle from the Michelin-starred Peat Inn, executive chef Frank Trepesch from five star Fairmont St Andrews, St Andrews Links executive chef Ian MacDonald (who is also president of the Federation of Chefs Scotland), sous chef Nick Kock from Rufflets Country House Hotel (AA Scottish Hotel of the Year), and Stewart Macaulay from the multi-award winning Adamson Restaurant (2015 Scottish Restaurant of the Year).

All six joined forces in the kitchen, with backing from hospitality students and staff from both Fife College and the SRUC Elmwood campus, and dinner sponsorship from Quality Meat Scotland.

The students were able to gain unique top level experience both in the kitchen and front of house, film from the kitchen was beamed into the dining room by Fife College throughout the dinner, and bursaries worth £500 each were presented to students from Fife College and the SRUC Elmwood Campus.

There was a welcome reception with cocktails featuring local gin, local craft beers, soft drinks and a range of canapes, and during the dinner speakers from suppliers and producers highlighted the main ingredient in each course.

During November 2016 there were also two days of cookery demonstrations at the Byre Theatre, and a Chefs’ Taster Lunch in the Hall of Champions Old Course Hotel.
